At St Martin's CE Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all our pupils, regardless of their background or circumstances, have the opportunity to reach their full potential. 1 We receive Pupil Premium funding from the government, which is specifically designed to support the attainment of disadvantaged pupils. This page outlines how we use this funding to make a positive difference to our children's lives and learning.
Our Aims
Our core aim is to provide an outstanding education that enables all pupils to thrive. We use our Pupil Premium funding to:
Close the attainment gap: We strive to diminish any differences in attainment between our disadvantaged pupils and their peers, particularly in reading, writing, and mathematics.
Improve attendance: We work to ensure that our disadvantaged pupils attend school regularly, as good attendance is crucial for academic success.
Enhance enrichment: We aim to provide disadvantaged pupils with access to a wide range of enriching experiences that may otherwise be out of reach, such as school trips, residential visits, and wraparound care.
Develop essential skills: We focus on developing pupils' oracy (speaking) and vocabulary skills, as these are fundamental to learning across the curriculum.
Support wellbeing: We prioritize the social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) of our disadvantaged pupils, recognizing that wellbeing is essential for learning.
Strengthen family engagement: We work closely with families to support their children's learning and build strong home-school partnerships.
How We Use Pupil Premium Funding
We use our Pupil Premium funding strategically to support our aims through a variety of approaches:
High-Quality Teaching: We believe that excellent teaching is the foundation for all pupils' success. We invest in professional development for our teachers to ensure they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to support disadvantaged learners effectively. This includes training on differentiation, adaptive teaching, and metacognitive strategies.
Targeted Academic Support: We provide targeted interventions and support for pupils who need it most. This may include one-to-one or small-group tutoring, catch-up programs, and specific interventions focused on reading, writing, and maths (e.g., SHINE interventions, RWI Spelling). We also have an Intervention Lead to ensure these interventions are highly effective.
Wider Support Strategies: We address the wider barriers to learning that disadvantaged pupils may face. This includes:
Providing a free breakfast club and supporting the National Breakfast Programme to ensure pupils start the day ready to learn.
Offering wraparound care at a 50% discount for disadvantaged families, making it more accessible.
Employing a full-time Family Support Advisor to work directly with families and provide tailored support.
Providing a TIS Practitioner to support pupils' emotional wellbeing.
Subsidizing the cost of school trips and residential visits to ensure that disadvantaged pupils can participate fully.
Implementing strategies to improve attendance and promote positive behaviour.
We are committed to building on this success and continuing to improve outcomes for our disadvantaged pupils.
