Welcome back after the half term break. This term will be very busy as we step up even more in readiness for SATs. SATs will start the week commencing 8th May. I am offering SATs clinics every Wednesday at 3:30pm until 4:00pm in my classroom each week until Easter.
Homework will be set every Thursday to be handed in on the following Wednesday. In addition to homework, I expect you to read for 20 minutes every day - you are Year 6 now!. PE is timetabled for Tuesday and Friday afternoons this term so please make sure you have kit in school.
Mrs Williams & Mrs Jordan
Malala class (Year 6).
”I truly believe the only way we can create global peace is through not only educating our minds, but our hearts and our souls.”
“And if we want to achieve our goal, then let us empower ourselves with the weapon of knowledge and let us shield ourselves with unity and togetherness.”
We kick start the term with our new topic 'Sustainability'. We will be learning about biomes and vegetation belts in geography and looking at plant classification in science. The two subjects tie in closely and will offer some lovely opportunities for art as well. I am hoping that we will have the opportunity to visit Eden as some point this term, I will keep you updated,
In English we will be focusing on grammar and punctuation, as well as sentence structure to make their writing more complex and interesting. Spelling is crucial and we will be focusing on the year 6 spelling lists also.
In maths there will be an on-going focus on problem solving and higher order thinking skills to achieve mastery. For the next couple of weeks we will be learning about algebra and ratio and proportion.
This term the class will be 'performing' to music and developing tennis skills in PE and producing algorithms for an interactive game using Scratch.
