Christingle at St Martin’s Church
On Sunday the Y2’s and Y5/6’s from St Martin’s School came together as a community to celebrate Christingle, whilst helping children who are in desperate need of support.
The event was held in St Martin’s Church and attended by Tim Thornton the Bishop of Truro who is chairman of the Children’s Society in Cornwall.
The Y2 children sang ‘Little Donkey’ and ‘Mary had a Baby’. The Y5/6’s explained the meaning of Christingle. Evelyn, a Y2 child, dressed as an orange to represent the world and the children added a ribbon, fruit/sweets and a candle.
They also sang ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Oh Christmas Tree.’
The highlight of the Christingle celebrations was the lighting of the Christingle candles under dimmed lights - a moment filled with awe and wonder for children and adults alike. The congregation sang ‘Away in a Manger’ to celebrate this magical moment.
By taking part in Christingle our children enjoyed the warmth and vibrancy of this wonderful celebration and played a key part in transforming the lives of thousands of children.
